About Me
My name is Ryan McNamee, I currently live in Seattle, and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Communication in 2010.
I grew up in Spokane, Washington and graduated Gonzaga Preparatory School. After taking a year off from school, I decided to return to Washington and begin working on a degree in Communications. During this time, I had the opportunity to intern at Seattle Community College Television and Rainier Radio.
Although I began my freelance film work in January 2010, it wasn't until the end of March that I produced my first multimedia news story about homelessness in Seattle. "The Homeless Neighbor" won the 2010 Pioneer Newspaper Journalism Award and has been published on Next Door Media's MyBallard.com as well as many other news sites.
I continued working on short films and have successfully completed 6 short documentary style films. These films can be found under the film section.
In January 2011, I took on a different type of film making. I started to follow Phoenix Jones and the Real Life Superheroes around Seattle. Since I began this adventure, I have experienced a side of Seattle I never knew existed. We have been shot at, almost arrested, been in fights. We have helped people who had no one to turn to, saved peoples lives and assisted local police in countless arrests. We have been on local and international news, on radio shows, on television shows, in documentaries and even given lectures. This has been one of the craziest and best experiences of my life.
Although this may appear to be just a journey, it was something much different; a very innovative and ambitious online marketing campaign to increase the visibility of social issues around Seattle. I have taken all of the images and video captured during these outings to produce multilayered advertisements as well as multimedia content that is disseminated to news agencies around the world. Most recently, I have been working with one of the local superheroes, Purple Reign, to create a press packet targeted at reaching people through social media for her upcoming campaign against domestic violence. Our research indicates that we have reached over 400 million people while normalizing the concept surrounding what a Real Life Superhero is. I could never have accomplished this much if it wasn't for the help and guidance of a close colleague and mentor Peter Tangen.
I am always looking for something creative and innovative to produce. If you have any ideas or a project you would like to make a reality, please contact me!
Feel free to look around this site, and contact me with feedback regarding what you see. Your comments, suggestions and criticism is all extremely important to me. Thank you for taking the time to visit my site, I hope you enjoy what you find.
Sincerely,
Ryan McNamee
