Waiting for the light to change green, a misting of rain began to fall on my windshield. Yes, it is officially winter in Seattle, I thought to my self.

I was heading down to pick up Midnight Jack, who was waiting for me in the most superhero place he could find; a phone booth.

"Hurry," he said over the phone, "two cops are starting to look at me funny". And why wouldn't they be I wondered. There is a masked man waiting in a phone booth outside a fairly respectable establishment talking on his cell phone.

After getting Jack, I went to grab Mantis and then El Caballero.

"Good evening amigos," Caballero said with a smile as he flung the car door open.

We made fairly good time getting downtown to our drop point. The roads were almost empty, and the mist had almost let up.

I dropped my three masked passengers off at the drop point and then left to grab Phoenix, Purple and a reporter who would be joining us this evening.

It was a little after 1 am before we had all gathered.  Phoenix went through team placement and the nights agenda. Nothing out of the ordinary; a quick sweep of downtown then a long patrol of Belltown.

Despite last night being a full moon, Belltown had a weird feeling to it. Some of the most dangerous situations we have been involved in happened on full moons. The days that follow are typically quiet and low key; which made tonights feeling a little out of the ordinary.

The streets were lined with cars, and crowds of people congregated outside their usual clubs. Dim red lights flashed from atop couple SPD cars over by the Crocodile, one of the more shady clubs in the area. Although there were a lot of people, nothing screamed immediate danger to us.

We watched a few people begin to push and shove one another in the usual parking lots. "They are just playing around," Phoenix informs the on-edge group.

Different groups continued to play fight for a while, before we head back down to the city center.

By the time we reached the clock over Pike Place, it red neon hands read just after 3am.

Everyone was ready to go home.

On the walk back to a car, we heard a car alarm going off. We quickly ran to see what was going on. About a block away from us, a man staggered around a silver Infinity. The front and back doors lay open as he looked up at us. After he quickly closed the doors the obviously drunk man began to walk away. We waited in the shadows and watched for a few minutes before Pitch and Midnight Jack ran after him.

"Is that your car," Pitch asked. No answer "Is THAT your car," Pitch asked again, but still no answer.
"Keep your distance," Phoenix said over the com link. "Remember you are in masks."

A man standning near by said that our new suspect had been walking around suspiciously. With that we all took off back over to 1st Ave. The nicely dressed and fairly intoxicated man hailed a taxi cab. Not this again I thought to my self as I caught my breath from the uphill run.

Supers surrounded the taxi and asked the man to step out.

The taxi turned off and both the driver and back door opened. The man emerged and began to walk towards us. Purple and Mantis were already on 911 to report the possible car prowl.

Phoenix and the man exchanged a few words before Mantis informed the group that SPD was on their way and they wanted us to wait for them.

We waited, and waited.

After what felt like 10 minutes or so, we decided to walk the man back to the car to see if his drivers license matched the registration on the car. He knew who Phoenix was, but he didn't know who the other masked men that pursued him were. All of us understood that seeing masked people come after you may be a little daunting, especially at 3 am in Belltown.

The man had told Phoenix that he was too drunk to drive home so he was resting in his car. When the alarm went off he panicked because he knew he should not have been near his car with keys in his current state. Second perfectly good explanation for the situation.

Everything was checking out fine and it was turning into just a big misunderstanding. However we walked with him to ensure the story checked out fully.

We got back to the car and man produced his car keys. With a push of a button the car illuminated. That was as much evidence as we needed. We apologized to the man for the misunderstanding and parted ways.

It was almost 4 am by the time we made it back to our cars agai. It had been a long night already, now it was time to get everyone home.
